Chelsea striker Timo Werner rejoined Bundesliga heavyweights RB Leipzig in a £25 million deal as he heads back to Germany after a disappointing spell in the Premier League.
Werner made the move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020 after Chelsea activated his £45 million release clause but the forward failed to hit the ground running during his time in west London.
It was expected of the Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel to give his nod to Werner’s sale in this summer’s transfer window with Tuchel looking to get rid of the deadwood in his ranks before the window slammed shut.
According to a report from Goal, Leipzig will fork out £25 million including bonuses with Chelsea set to bear a sizable loss on their initial investment which had been subject to much praise back then following Werner’s exploits in the Bundesliga.
Werner has put pen to paper a four-year contract at Leipzig which would tie him down to the German outfit until the summer of 2026 with the 26-year-old hoping to find his feet again ahead of the FIFA World Cup later this year.
