Chelsea have reportedly struck an agreement on personal terms with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana ahead of potentially lodging a bid for the 21-year-old Frenchman, according to a report from The Daily Express.
Fofana has emerged as the alternative to Chelsea’s plans of signing a new centre-back in the summer transfer window after the Blues suffered a major setback in pursuit of long-standing target Jules Kounde.
Leicester City’s astronomical valuation of their first-team star, however, could play spoilsport to Chelsea’s plans of bringing him to Stamford Bridge with the King Power Stadium outfit demanding an offer close to £70 million.
Tuchel would be delighted to snap up Fofana before the next season gets underway with the Leicester centre-back’s arrival expected to give Chelsea some much-needed depth in the defensive ranks after big-name exits in the transfer window this summer.
Established players in Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have left the Chelsea fold while uncertainty continues to loom over the future of Tuchel’s skipper Cesar Azpilicueta who has courted serious interest from FC Barcelona.
