Chelsea are reportedly stepping up the pursuit for Barcelona maestro Frenkie de Jong with a £33 million bid launched by the west Londoners.
The La Liga heavyweights, however, are holding out for an increased offer as rumours suggest that the two European bigwigs are just £8 million apart in their valuation of De Jong’s signature.
According to reports from the Spanish news outlet El Nacional, it is claimed that Barcelona are looking to pocket a £41 million fee for parting ways with the Holland international midfield man who has not been the best of performers at Camp Nou since his move from Ajax.
With the new boss Xavi not bereft of young talent in the centre of the park, he could be willing to sanction De Jong’s departure with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea credited with a strong interest in the player along with Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich.
The Blues are in line to let go of loan signing Saul Niguez come the summer with the Atletico Madrid loanee failing to hit the ground running after making the move to the Premier League on deadline day.
