Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has commented on the speculation surrounding a potential move to Manchester City.
The Blues have given City permission to sign the 29-year-old in the upcoming summer transfer window, with new manager Mauricio Pochettino allowing his departure.
The Premier League champions may be in need of a midfielder as Ilkay Gundogan is attracting interest from Arsenal, Barcelona, and Saudi Arabian clubs.
Bayern Munich and former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, have also been linked with an interest in Kovacic. The Croatian has made 221 appearances for Chelsea since joining in 2018.
According to Standard Sport, Kovacic was asked about the interests of fellow rivals Manchester City, for which he said:
“I have one more year with Chelsea, this season was very bad. Everything is going towards the fact that after 5 good years I will change, but in football anything can happen. Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League.”
“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is long, we’ll see what happens.”
“Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans, they love me, I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens”
Chelsea is reportedly interested in signing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo after shifting their focus away from Sporting Lisbon’s Manuel Ugarte, who seems likely to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Furthermore, it is rumored that Mason Mount has reached an agreement with Manchester United, while N’Golo Kante is nearing a move to Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League.
These potential transfers indicate a significant midfield overhaul under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
