Brazilian winger Willian has admitted that he would like to see Frank Lampard succeed as Chelsea boss if the Englishman is given the job.
Maurizio Sarri left as Chelsea head coach after just one season in charge at the club guiding them to Europa League success. The 60-year-old master tactician has joined Serie A champions Juventus because he wanted to return to management in Italian football and left the job vacancy at Stamford Bridge.
Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is the most likely candidate to succeed Sarri at the West London club. The 41-year-old ex-England international scored 211 goals for the Blues across 13 years and is the all-time top scorer for the club but will have a different task when he returns as a manager.
Lampard got into management only 12 months ago and almost led Derby County to promotion in the Premier League. However, it seems that was enough credentials to land him a job at Chelsea. But Lampard will have to potentially deal with the fact that Chelsea is enduring a transfer ban which means they cannot sign any players for a whole year.
Amidst all the transfer talk and speculation Chelsea winger Willian has spoken of his excitement on Lampard taking the reins at Chelsea. While speaking to reporters, the 30-year-old midfielder seemed confident about Lampard stepping into Sarri’s boots, “He is a legend, He was an extraordinary player for the club, winning every possible title. He deserves so much respect and backing for what he has already achieved at the club. If Chelsea does bring him in, he will be very welcome.”
However, Willian also added that he is not certain whether Lampard would actually manager Chelsea, “Is he definitely going to be the next manager? I don’t know. But I think he would be up to the task. He was a great player, and he is a great person. He’s only starting his managerial career now, but he has everything it takes to be a success.”
