According to Daily Express, Chelsea and Manchester City have both contacted Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka about a possible transfer.
The Premier League’s powerhouses are reportedly interested in the Slovakian international, who is reportedly in negotiations with Napoli about a new contract.
Lobotka has participated in every game for the Serie A outfit this season and has been a mainstay in the starting XI. However, the recent transfer rumours are a bit surprising, since the player has 2 years left on his present contract.
But it seems that he would like to have his terms improved. Napoli is only willing to offer about £2.2 million at the moment, the 27-year-old’s agents are demanding an annual salary of about £2.6 million.
Before joining Napoli in January 2020, the Napoli star spent time at Ajax, Nordsjaelland, and Celta Vigo. For the Italian team, he has yet to make more than 23 league appearances in a single season, but this year he has established himself as a regular player.
Lobotka might be a N’Golo Kante replacement if Chelsea chooses to pursue their interest. At the end of the current campaign, the Frenchman’s contract will end with the blues and the club would need to find a solution.
Injury issues have plagued Kante in recent campaigns. Since the 2-2 tie with Tottenham in August, he has not played, and most recently, he experienced yet another injury scare. Signing Lobotka will solve a major issue for Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
