Chelsea show interest in signing Villarreal’s star defender Pau Torres

Chelsea have shown an interest in signing Villarreal’s star defender Pau Torres but could be forced to fork out a big fee to land his services.

The Spain international centre-back has long been a name on Manchester United’s shopping list with a move away from the Estadio de la Ceramica said to be on the cards for Torres sooner rather than later.

According to a report from 90min, Chelsea are amongst a few of Europe’s bigwigs keeping close tabs on the 25-year-old as Villarreal looks to pocket a club-record fee to green light the transfer to the Premier League.

Torres will be a pivotal figure for the Spain national team in this month’s World Cup in Qatar and his performances are expected to further his stock’s rise in world football with Chelsea hoping to emerge as the frontrunners for the defender.

Aston Villa are the other side from England’s top flight who are credited with an interest in the La Liga star with West Midlands side, now under the charge of the player’s former boss Unai Emery, on the hunt for defensive reinforcements.
