Chelsea should sign their former player Nathan Ake in the summer according to Gareth Crooks.
Chelsea was given a two-window transfer ban and was unable to sign players this summer with the club promoting players from their youth academy.
Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, and Fikayo Tomori are Chelsea academy graduates who have been given an opportunity by manager Frank Lampard. One player who came through the Chelsea academy but was never given the opportunity in the first team is Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.
Nathan Ake came through the Chelsea academy and after a successful loan spell at Bournemouth, he was recalled from his loan spell midway by manager Antonio Conte but was never given a run of games and was then sold to Bournemouth for £20million the following summer.
But as part of that deal, the Europa League winners secured an agreement that they could re-sign the Netherlands international for £40m should the player be open to a return.
Gareth Crooks told the BBC: “The shot of Nathan Ake suspended in mid-air having attacked a set-piece and buried a bullet header past Angus Gunn in Southampton’s goal was a picture to behold.
“It was not only Bournemouth’s first goal in a historic win against their south coast rivals but a clear indication that the Cherries meant business.
“I don’t know what Ake would cost for Chelsea to buy him back but if I was them I would seriously consider it.”
£40m would represent a bargain for a player of Nathan Ake’s class with him being valued at around £70m by Bournemouth.
