Chelsea FC are hoping to hijack Everton’s transfer approach for Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon. The Toffees have submitted an opening bid of £18million for the Spanish left-back. However, the Blues are keen on making an improved offer for Reguilon and finalizing his signing in the coming days.
The pursuit of Ben Chilwell by Frank Lampard’s side has not borne any fruits for the West London based outfit. Leicester City have stuck to their demands of seeking a bid in the region of £80 million for the 23-year old wingback. Despite Chilwell’s desire to join the Blues ahead of next season, the Foxes boss Brenden Rodgers has insisted that the English international is not for sale this summer.
Instead, it is understood that the Blues will now shift their priorities towards other transfer targets. Reguilon has enjoyed a superb 2019-20 La Liga campaign on loan from Real Madrid at Sevilla. The Spaniard has shone this season for the latter and was even adjudged La Liga’s best left-back.
However, despite his fantastic performances on his loan spell away from Los Blancos, the 23-year old does not see his future at Real Madrid. The presence of Marcelo at Zinedine Zidane’s disposal would make it difficult for Reguilon to make a foray into the Spanish giants’ first-team squad. Moreover, Ferland Mendy has established himself to be the ideal replacement for the aging Marcelo at the Santiago Bernabéu.
At Chelsea FC, however, the left-back spot is easily up for grabs. Both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have failed to impress Lampard with their displays this season. As a result, the Blues coach is in the transfer market for additional defensive reinforcements this summer.
With Real Madrid looking to find a suitable buyer for Reguilon, Chelsea FC could be in a position to make a summer swoop for the 23-year old. The Blues will face no difficulties in upstaging Everton’s £18million bid to secure Reguilon’s signing.
Reports on the contrary have suggested that the Spaniard may prefer to extend his stay at Real Madrid. Speculation indicates Reguilon’s desire to rival Ferland Mendy for the first-team spot following Marcelo’s axing from the squad.
