The Blues have scrapped their initial plans to make a move for Atletico Madrid No.1 Jan Oblak, according to reports. Oblak’s transfer had been a major source of interest from Chelsea FC boss this summer with Frank Lampard looking for quality goalkeepers to replace Kepa at Stamford Bridge.
Rumours suggest that Atletico Madrid’s £110 million valuation for their shot-stopper has put an end to Chelsea FC’s pursuit for the player. The Blues are largely reluctant to shell out such an enormous fee to sign the Slovenian international.
With three years still remaining on the 27-year old Oblak’s current deal with Diego Simeone’s side, the La Liga club are under no duress to find a buyer for their first-choice goalkeeper this summer. Moreover, Oblak is one of the most important players to Simeone at the Spanish outfit.
Reports of Chelsea FC withdrawing interest from signing the Atletico man comes after Oblak’s recent comments that suggested the possibility of signing for Frank Lampard’s side ahead of next season. The Slovenian shot-stopper had refused to put an end to rumours surrounding his future in the Atletico shirt.
It is believed that Lampard will now set his sights on Burnley’s Nick Pope as an ideal No.1 for the Blues next season. The English goalkeeper was in top form throughout the 2019-20 Premier League campaign and seems to be a good fit for the Chelsea FC squad.
