Chelsea are reportedly set to launch a bid for Leicester City centre-back Wesley Fofana with defeat imminent in their pursuit of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.
Thomas Tuchel’s long-standing efforts to bring the France international talent Kounde to Stamford Bridge in this summer’s transfer window appear to go in vain with Barcelona emerging as the frontrunner for the highly rated defender’s signature.
With the Chelsea head coach Tuchel backed to sign a new centre-back to bolster his backline, Leicester City’s Fofana has been identified as the viable alternative to Kounde with the Blues camp mulling over making a formal approach for the 21-year-old.
According to a report from 90min, the exits of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma from the Stamford Bridge camp has forced Tuchel to scout the market for reinforcements and the German is keen on moving in for Fofana.
Fofana spent the majority of last season out on the sidelines with an injury but the young Frenchman remains a prospect to watch out for following his impressive breakthrough at the King Power Stadium.
