Chelsea veteran defender Thiago Silva will announce a decision on his future in the upcoming days as he is set to become a free agent this summer.

Thiago Silva

The 39-year-old joined the Blues during Frank Lampard’s reign in 2020. He won the Champions League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup under Thomas Tuchel.

He has made 149 appearances for Chelsea and contributed with nine goals and three assists. He has been a vital player this season as well with 32 appearances under his belt.

Silva signed a one-year extension in his current contract last summer. His stay at Stamford Bridge will end this summer and it is expected that he will move to South America before retiring.

However, the Brazilian has said that he will decide on his future in the upcoming days. As quoted by the Mirror, he said:

“You are going to know in the coming days. I don’t want to say anything now after a defeat. I’m sad about the result, but sooner or later the news will come out. I do have a decision made in my mind, but it’s not the moment to share it.”

“I don’t like to talk about me, but you can see this. In the semi-final, I was ready to play the extra time! I can see I still have some years in me to keep enjoying football.”

Silva burst into tears following Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final defeat against holders Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side emerged victorious via Bernando Silva’s 84th-minute striker.

The defeat ended the senior centre-back’s hopes of what could be his last trophy in Europe. Reports suggest that he might move to his boyhood club after his contract expires with the Blues.
