Football journalist Mark Ogden has reportedly admitted that Chelsea will not hesitate to sack Frank Lampard if he is unable to deliver the results as Blues manager.
Maurizio Sarri decided to step down as manager of Chelsea football club as he was keen on returning to Italy. The job at Juventus opened up and the 60-year old took up the opportunity to manage in Serie A leaving his position vacant at Chelsea.
There are plenty of candidates linked to taking up the managerial position at Chelsea but former England international midfielder Frank Lampard is the favorite to succeed Sarri. The 41-year-old is Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorer and adored by every single Chelsea fan but his return as a manager could not be too viable according to pundits.
ESPN pundit Mark Ogden admitted that Lampard is the firm favorite for the job at Stamford Bridge but because of the tough situation that Chelsea are in at the moment, they will not hesitate to give him the boot as they have done in the past with the previous managers.
Ogden explained, “I think with Frank it’s a job that he will accept, It’s a formality that he’s going to take the job and he couldn’t turn it down. But it’s a tough job to take on because Chelsea has lost their best player by a long way, Eden Hazard; they’re under a transfer embargo. It’s the right move for [Lampard], whether it’s the right move for Chelsea…”
The senior football writer further added that under Roman Abramovich’s reign, Chelsea managers do not stick around for too long, “Look, Chelsea’s ethos under [Roman] Abramovich has always been a churn of managers; they don’t stick around for very long. So if it doesn’t work for Frank Lampard it will only be the same as Maurizio Sarri going after a year or AVB going after six months or Scolari going after six months, it’s what Chelsea do. It will be quite painful to get rid of a legend but I think for Chelsea, why not?”
