Bayern Munich’s Jerome Boateng who is set to leave the Bundesliga giants at the close of the ongoing campaign has attracted interest from Premier League’s London sides Chelsea and Arsenal.
Reports from the Express claim that Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are in line to make a move for the Germany international but would be challenged for the same by city foes Arsenal who are also on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer.
Another Thiago Silva-esque signing on the horizon for the Blues?
Chelsea had notably brought in the veteran Brazil centre-back Thiago Silva in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and the player has been a moderate success at Stamford Bridge heading into the close of this season.
A few horrid displays at the back, the most recent one being in the defeat to West Brom, have been matched with some heroic ones but doubts remain over the 35-year-old being a good enough fit for Tuchel’s’ first-team plans ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
Boateng could also arrive as a free transfer for the Blues who could count upon his massive experience of playing at the highest level of club football.
Challenge posed by Arsenal in the race to sign Boateng
The Gunners’ hunt for centre-back options leads them to the Bayern Munich man as well who would be available for free in the summer after declining to extend his deal at the Allianz Arena.
It remains to be seen which of the London clubs ends up being elected the winner to land the 32-year-old Boateng’s signature with the player becoming an in-demand defensive asset in the weeks leading up to the summer window.
