Chelsea have registered a shock interest in signing Manchester United’s skipper Harry Maguire as part of a swap deal involving United target Christian Pulisic.
Thomas Tuchel is on the hunt for a new centre-back to bolster his defensive lineup and the Chelsea head coach has stepped up his efforts to bring in Leicester City star Wesley Fofana in a potential world-record transfer for a defender.
According to a report from The Guardian, however, the Blues are looking at the England international Maguire as an alternative in the market should they fail to land Fofana’s signature with Leicester showing reluctance in sanctioning his sale.
Maguire, who came under much censure last season for his timid displays in the Manchester United shirt, is not for sale by the Old Trafford camp with the player confirmed as captain by the new head coach Erik ten Hag in July.
United, meanwhile, are credited with an interest in signing Stamford Bridge outcast Pulisic on loan while Chelsea are expected to favor a permanent deal if the American forward is to depart this transfer window.
