Premier League giants Chelsea are on the verge of signing Leeds United defensive midfielder Tyler Adams, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Although the 24-year-old still has four years remaining on his contract with Leeds, Chelsea have exercised his £20 million release clause.
Having already reached an agreement on personal terms with Adams, the Blues are now preparing for his medical examination before finalizing the contract.
Despite only joining Leeds last summer, Adams’ exceptional performances for the Yorkshire team have garnered attention.
The midfielder from the United States has stood out both at the club and international levels, although his campaign was cut short in March due to a hamstring injury.

Reports indicate that he is nearing a return to training, and Chelsea are hopeful that he can resume his strong form. He left a positive impression with his 24 appearances for Leeds last season.
While Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo remains Chelsea’s main target for defensive midfield, there is still a disparity in valuation between both clubs over the player.
Brighton are resolute in their stance, demanding £100 million for Caicedo. However, the Blues remains steadfast in their determination to secure the Ecuadorian midfielder for a lower sum.
Caicedo has conveyed his desire for the transfer, prompting Chelsea to prepare a fifth offer for the 21-year-old.
Additionally, reports suggest that the club has also submitted a bid for sought-after Southampton talent Romeo Lavia.
The young Belgian player is anticipated to depart Saint Mary’s Stadium during this summer transfer window and has been linked with a potential move to Liverpool, who have already faced three rejections for their bids.

Chelsea are attempting to disrupt the transfer by putting forth a £48 million offer, supplemented by additional payments based on performance. Nevertheless, Southampton have not yet provided a response to this proposition.
Chelsea are resolute in solving their issue concerning the defensive midfield position this summer.
With Tyler Adams’ potential arrival edging closer, it remains uncertain which among their targets will join the American midfielder at Stamford Bridge.
