Chelsea are reportedly set to re-open talks with Benfica to sign top target Enzo Fernandez after failing to strike a deal for the midfielder earlier in the January transfer window.
The Argentina World Cup star was one of the top names on Chelsea’s shopping list with the manager Graham Potter keen to reinforce his squad mid-season in the hopes of a better second half of the campaign.
According to a report from The Daily Express, it is claimed that Chelsea could be seen pipping Arsenal to signing the Benfica star which instead could help the North Londoners’ pursuit of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Benfica had played hardball on the pricing front in their previous negotiations with Chelsea for Fernandez with the Portuguese club unwilling to give the nod to the 21-year-old to leave for any less than his £105 million release clause.
Chelsea are now said to be confident they have a genuine chance to land Fernandez’s signature before Tuesday’s transfer deadline with the player himself keen to sign for the west London giants.
