Chelsea are said to be preparing an offer to sign Lyon right-back Malo Gusto who could cost Graham Potter’s side a fee in the region of €40 million.
The Blues had been in the market for a right wing-back with their nailed-on starter, Reece James, spending the majority of the season on the sidelines with injury troubles, adding to the squad selection woes for Potter.
According to a report from ESPN, Chelsea are closing on signing Gusto who already agreed on personal terms with the club on a six-and-a-half-year contract and could be nearing his move to west London before the January 31 deadline.
The report states that Lyon will attempt to take the 19-year-old defender back on loan until the end of the season but Chelsea would be reluctant to that proposal as they look to bring in Gusto in the ongoing transfer window.
Gusto has also been linked with a move to Manchester United this month with the Old Trafford camp keeping tabs on the teenage talent in order to improve upon their existing defensive options.
