Chelsea pose a seemingly tough challenge to arch rivals Manchester United’s plans for moving in for the midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
De Jong has emerged as a priority target at Old Trafford in the ongoing transfer window with the new United head coach Eric ten Tag keen to reinforce his options in the heart of the midfield by landing the Barcelona talent.
United have long pushed for an approach to bring De Jong to England’s top flight before the next season kicks off but it looks like the Red Devils will now be joined in the picture by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, according to a report from The Daily Express.
The uncertain futures of both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante at the Bridge beyond the summer of 2023, when their respective contracts are due to expire, could convince Tuchel for dipping into the market and sign a fresh face for his midfield roster.
Barcelona have insisted that they want to retain De Jong despite United’s strong interest in the Holland international with the Catalan club president Joan Laporta saying recently there was no decision to part ways with the 25-year-old.
