According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are reportedly planning a surprising move to secure the services of their academy graduate, Valentino Livramento. The club intends to sign Livramento but allow him to continue on loan at Southampton for another season.
After leaving Stamford Bridge two years ago in search of regular playing time, Livramento had a promising debut season at Southampton before enduring a ruptured cruciate ligament injury.
Now, the 20-year-old has caught the attention of multiple Premier League clubs following Southampton’s relegation.
Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion have shown interest in signing Livramento. However, Southampton turned down a £12 million offer from Newcastle, as they are holding out for an amount significantly higher than triple that initial bid.
Newcastle United have made an improved bid for the player, but they face competition from Chelsea, who have now entered the race to sign the young player.

This comes as a surprise, considering Chelsea still have two senior right-backs in Reece James and Malo Gusto, despite the departure of Cesar Azpilicueta to Atletico Madrid on a free transfer.
The Blues have been involved in a selling spree this summer, generating over £200 million from player sales. With new manager Mauricio Pochettino taking charge, the club is expected to make significant additions to their squad in preparation for the upcoming season.
Chelsea have wasted no time in the transfer market, securing the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson as their first two additions during the Premier League transfer window.
The club is currently engaged in negotiations with Brighton regarding the potential acquisition of Moises Caicedo. Additionally, Chelsea are also competing with top-six rivals Liverpool and Arsenal for the signature of Romeo Lavia.
