Chelsea plotting a summer move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi

According to the Guardian, Chelsea are planning a summer move to acquire Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

The Blues are contemplating the possibility of re-signing the 23-year-old player, who originally came through their youth system. They sold him to Crystal Palace for a transfer fee of £18 million in 2021.

Since his transfer to Palace, the centre-back has impressed with his performances and earned a spot in the England national team.

There is a high likelihood that Guehi will be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

Chelsea are now considering a move for Guehi as defender Wesley Fofana underwent surgery to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament, leading to several months of absence from the team.

Fofana’s injury has prompted the club to explore potential replacements, as he will miss a significant portion of the upcoming season.

It’s worth noting that Fofana already missed a considerable part of the previous season due to injuries following his £70 million transfer from Leicester City.

Chelsea are considering the option of re-signing Guehi to replace the injured Fofana. While Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in Guehi, Chelsea have the right to match any bid from potential suitors.

However, the Blues may also choose not to pursue a replacement for Fofana, given the availability of other defensive options in their squad.

They have players like Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, and Trevoh Chalobah to bolster their defensive lineup.

Chalobah is attracting interest from other clubs, and Badiashile is currently injured, which might influence Chelsea’s decision.

Regarding other transfer news, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will depart from Chelsea to join Marseille on a free transfer. The striker’s time at Chelsea has been disappointing, leading to his move to a new club.
