Chelsea are understood to be leading towards the termination of Atletico Madrid loanee Saul Niguez’s spell early ahead of the January transfer window.
The Spain international, who linked with the Blues on deadline day this summer in a season-long loan deal, has failed to hit the ground running for his new side and is struggling for regular minutes on the pitch.
Thomas Tuchel has not been impressed by Saul’s showings and with Ruben Loftus-Cheek stepping up his game in the injury-prone absence of Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante this season, Saul is in line to be deemed surplus to requirements in the English capital.
According to reports from The Metro, the 26-year-old midfield man could be on his way back to his parent club Atletico Madrid with Chelsea keen on the idea of cutting short his loan stint at Stamford Bridge after his underwhelming run of form.
Saul has featured in only four outings across all competitions for the west Londoners since his move to England’s top flight despite Tuchel bringing him in to shore up his options in the midfield department in the summer.
