Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Benfica to sign midfield talent Enzo Fernandes who is courted by some of the biggest clubs across Europe.
The Blues are looking to reinforce their midfield ranks in the coming transfer windows with veterans N’Golo Kante and Jorginho tipped to leave next summer when their contracts expire.
Graham Potter, new in the Chelsea dugout, has been on the search for a viable option to take over from the long-serving N’Golo Kante in the engine room with the Frenchman likely to head out the exit door at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
According to a report from The Daily Record, it is claimed that Chelsea are prepared to fork out a club-record transfer fee to land Fernandes and pip their rivals Liverpool and Manchester United to the Argentina international’s signature.
An offer north of €127 million is understood to have been tabled by Chelsea with Graham Potter’s side keen to bring in the 21-year-old Fernandes who enjoyed a terrific campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the champions Argentina.
