Chelsea are now backed to be the favourites to sign Atletico Madrid’s wantaway midfield man Saul Niguez before the transfer window’s deadline later this month.
Saul has been linked with a move away from the La Liga holders following his fall down the first-team pecking order and a host of Premier League clubs credited with a strong interest in securing his signature.
Reports from Spanish news outlet AS suggest that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are leading the race to land Saul this summer ahead of the other clubs in the fray which include domestic rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.
With Liverpool not expected to follow up on their initial interest in the Atletico man, Chelsea and Manchester United’s battle could well end up in a win for the former who are speculated to be scouting the market for midfield reinforcements ahead of deadline day.
West Ham United’s main man Declan Rice had been a longstanding target for Chelsea and Tuchel this summer but with the England international now firmly set to stay put with The Hammers, other names are being looked upon as viable alternatives.
