Chelsea not for sale says chairman Bruce Buck

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck insists Roman Abramovich is as committed to the club as ever and hinted that the club is planning a big splurge in the next transfer window.

The Russian chief has owned the Blues since 2003 but in recent years there have been doubts over his long-term commitment to the west London club.

Abramovich has reportedly not been to a home match since the spring of 2018 when the British government delayed renewing his visa. The 53-year-old then withdrew his UK visa application prompting speculation from fans he could be ready to walk away from his commitments to the club.

But Bruce Buck has dismissed any notion that the Russian billionaire could look to sell up should a “bargain bid” come his way.

“So far as I know, absolutely not. To the contrary — I have never heard a word from Mr. Abramovich: ‘Let’s get this ready for a sale,’ or something,” Buck told the Guardian newspaper.

Because of the political situation, there are people who think they might want to buy Chelsea Football Club at a bargain. We do get inquiries and we really have nothing to say to these people.

“In terms of being involved, in looking at new players, talking about whether to extend players’ contracts, do we buy this player, do we sell this player, (Abramovich) was always intimately involved in that from day one and is just as intimately involved now.

Chelsea has also shelved plans for a new 60,000-seat stadium that was scheduled to be ready for the 2020-21 season that has only increased speculation regarding Abramovich’s commitment to the Chelsea project.

On the field, Chelsea has looked good under Frank Lampard this season with the club currently sitting fourth in the table.
