Chelsea midfielder Jorginho is reported to be sidelined for the EFL Cup clash against Manchester City in a fresh blow to Graham Potter’s squad selection decision.
The Blues head coach, who has come under fire of late for his side’s horrid run of recent form, has had to deal with a growing list of injury concerns in the Stamford Bridge camp.
In his pre-match remarks ahead of Wednesday’s trip to the Etihad to face City in the EFL Cup third-round fixture, Potter confirmed that Jorginho was a doubt to feature in the game with the player picking up a foot injury.
“No miracles, unfortunately not. They’re progressing well. Reece [James] was outside today having a little jog. Jorginho [has a] slight problem with his foot [and is] doubtful for tomorrow. Kepa [Arrizabalaga] is still unavailable. We’ll see [if he plays before the World Cup]. He’s got to take it day by day. It’s not so positive.”
Potter’s defensive roster has been the worst hit by the injury crisis with the Chelsea boss unable to call upon the services of summer signing Wesley Fofana besides his first-choice full back options in Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
Jorginho’s unavailability for the midweek contest at the Etihad would be another setback for Potter who is already without anchorman N’Golo Kante with the latter expected to return only after the New Year.
