Chelsea’s head coach Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that the club may explore the possibility of adding attacking options in the upcoming January transfer window.
Despite a significant investment in the summer transfer window, the Blues have had a lackluster start to the Premier League season, currently sitting in 10th place with just 12 points.
The team’s main striker, Nicolas Jackson, has been underwhelming, and with Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku sidelined due to injuries, the need for additional attacking reinforcements is being considered.
Pochettino has stated that Nkunku is close to his debut following a knee injury, but he has also suggested that the club might assess their need for new attacking signings in the upcoming winter transfer window.
As reported by football.london, he said:
“Football is really dynamic. Maybe we are thinking in a different way two weeks ago or three weeks ago. Ready and working with the sporting directors and owners to try to be ready.”
“The moment the transfer window is open, we can see if the team needs, if the squad needs to add some players in the position we are talking, an offensive position.”
Chelsea are currently falling behind their Premier League competitors when it comes to center-forwards. Jackson has been struggling to score consistently in the top-flight, and the injuries to Nkunku and Broja have added to the team’s challenges.
If there is no improvement in this department by January, Pochettino may push the club to acquire a new number 9. One possible option for the club could be Brentford ace Ivan Toney.

The 27-year-old striker is currently serving a suspension from the FA for betting violations and won’t be eligible to play again until January 17.
However, there is high demand for him, and it’s possible that he has already played his last game for Brentford. A January move is a possibility for the striker.
Toney had an impressive tally of 20 goals in the Premier League during the previous season before his recent suspension. He is being considered as a potential candidate to fill a role similar to what Didier Drogba once had at Chelsea.
The English star is known for his excellent finishing abilities within the penalty area, as well as his physical and aerial strengths, which can disrupt opposing defenses.
