Raphael Varane’s move to Manchester United is claimed to be imminent but that has not stopped Chelsea from making a last-ditch attempt to lure the French defender to Stamford Bridge.
Reports from Spanish news outlet Marca claim that Thomas Tuchel’s Blues have made a late offer for the World Cup-winning centre-back despite him being in advanced talks with long-term admirers Manchester United.
The Old Trafford giants have been chasing the Real Madrid star since the turn of the year and with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to improve upon his options at the back, Varane has emerged as United’s priority target for the summer transfer window.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have been on the lookout too for defensive reinforcements ahead of the start of the new season as Thomas Tuchel deals with his centre-back duo Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen yet to agree upon new contracts with just a year remaining on both of their current deals with the west Londoners.
