Chelsea are looking to make a January window move for Ajax star Edson Alvarez who was wanted by the Stamford Bridge camp last summer.
The midfielder has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in world football following his impressive run of displays for Ajax and the Mexican national team in the recent past.
He had come close to signing for Chelsea in the summer but Ajax were not keen to part ways with their first-team regular in a transfer window in which they lost Lisandro Martinez and Antony to Manchester United.
According to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, in his CaughtOffside’s Substack, Chelsea continue to keep tabs on Alvarez with the midfield maestro understood to be a top name on the west London outfit’s shopping list for summer 2023.
The Blues are hoping to bring a player of Alvarez’s ability to add to their options in the centre of the park with Chelsea likely to lose either N’Golo Kante or Jorginho when their terms expire at the Bridge at the end of the season.
