Chelsea look to Getafe star to solve left-back spot contention

In an attempt to secure a quality addition at left-back, Chelsea FC are willing to pay a £44 million transfer fee to secure the signing of Getafe’s Marc Cucurella, according to reports. The Blues are desperate to land a left-back signing this summer to solve the defensive crisis currently being faced by them.

The 22-year old Cucurella’s displays of late for Getafe on the pitch have encouraged Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard to sign the young Spaniard. Recent speculation suggests that Lampard is open to the idea of doubling Getafe’s £22 million valuation for Cucurella to hasten the player’s arrival at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.

Getafe secured an eighth-place finish in the La Liga this season, and Cucurella was a major contributor towards his side’s great run of form across their league campaign. He played all but one of Getafe’s 38 league fixtures and provided six assists for his teammates.

Chelsea FC are in a massive need of an overhaul at the back to pose any form of serious title challenge against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool next season. The Blues’ backline has been exposed very often during the 2019-20 season, and the left-back spot in Lampard’s side is a major source of concern for the club’s supporters.

Both Marcos Alonso and Emerson have failed to impress Lampard with their performances this season. A much-anticipated move for Leicester City star Ben Chilwell, Chelsea FC’s top-priority target, has been priced out due to the Foxes seeking an £80 million bid for the English international.
