Chelsea are looking to challenge Liverpool to sign Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana this summer with both clubs desperate for a midfield rebuild.
Fofana has been a star turn for his club with his displays in the Monaco shirt earning him a place in France’s squad in the World Cup with some of England’s biggest clubs keeping close tabs on his development.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Chelsea have joined Liverpool in pursuit of the player who was a former pizza delivery boy to make ends meet after being dropped by France’s national academy as a 15-year-old.
The presence of co-sporting director Laurence Stuart, who left Monaco to link up with Chelsea back in October, could help tip the scales in Chelsea’s favour should the Blues go head to head with Liverpool to secure Fofana’s signature.
Chelsea are keen to overhaul their midfield options over the summer with star playmaker Mason Mount likely to take the exit route from Stamford Bridge amid the uncertainty that surrounds his contract talks with the club.
