Chelsea look set to miss out on signing Barcelona midfield talent Gavi this summer in a blow to the incoming head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s plans on the transfer front.
Pochettino is said to be keen to reinforce his midfield options over the summer and the Spain international Gavi was a top name on the shopping list at Stamford Bridge following his contract situation with Barcelona attracting much speculation.
According to a report from The Daily Mirror, it is claimed that Chelsea could be forced to step back from their pursuit of Gavi with the midfielder keen to commit his future to Barca once the Catalan outfit are able to balance the books.
Pochettino’s hopes for midfield reinforcements come at a time when uncertainty has been cast over the future of Chelsea star N’Golo Kante whose current terms are due to expire in the summer amid interest in his services from elsewhere.
Mason Mount is another Chelsea first-team midfield name whose future at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of the season hangs in the balance with the England playmaker’s contract extension talks yet to make headway.
