Conor Gallagher has admitted that going through a rough patch of results whilst on loan at West Brom has made him learn from the strenuous experiences of playing at the top level.
The England U21 international signed for the Baggies on a loan agreement as first-team opportunities were quite hard to come his way at Stamford Bridge with the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic holding tight on the midfield spots.
In a recent interview, according to reports from Goal, Gallagher details his journey which he believes he is putting him through difficult moments for now in order to hasten his improvement as a player and the English starlet admits that there is a lot to learn going forward in his promising career.
“Everyone throughout their careers has a lot of tough moments,” said Gallagher.
“You experience losing and things like that and you improve. We as young players, no matter what, will get experience from it.
“I was excited to play in the Premier League after a step up from Championship last season. I’ve loved every minute of it. Hopefully I’ll keep developing and improving. It’s been a tough season for West Brom so far, so doing the dirty side of the game, the importance of work off the ball [is important].
“Premier League quality will punish you if you switch off, so you need to be concentrated and focused. I know people have other views on players going on loan and I’ve been at three different teams, but it’s three different experiences and teams with [different] styles, different managers and players.
“I’ve learnt a lot already in two years. Hopefully I can continue to learn as a player.”
Heading into this summer transfer window, Gallagher is one player who has garnered interest across the land with reports earlier this year claiming that Crystal Palace were among the teams vying for the youngster’s signature.
The 21-year-old is contracted to the Blues until 2025 and his time away from west London this season has seen him score twice and assist as many times in 23 top-flight outings for Sam Allardyce’s relegation-threatened West Brom outfit.
