Chelsea loanee Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to stay put with Bayer Leverkusen beyond the January transfer window, confirmed Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes.
The English winger Hudson-Odoi had fallen out of favour with then-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel but was convinced against permanently earlier this summer by the new co-owner Todd Boehly.
Speaking to the German news outlet BILD, Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has revealed that the Stamford Bridge loanee would be extending his stay in the Bundesliga beyond the mid year window to play out the rest of the season.
“We assumed that Callum would stay, but now we also have the certainty that he will stay with us.
“We’re happy about that, because he’s a very important player for us.”
A return to the Bridge come January would have provided Chelsea and Graham Potter with a viable front line option in the 22-year-old Hudson-Odoi at a time when the club has been looking to reinforce their attacking ranks.
AC Milan star Rafael Leao is said to be the top name on the shopping list for the Chelsea camp with Boehly prepared to shell out a big money fee to land the Portugal international in a mid-season move.
