Chelsea, who came very close to landing the signature of former Liverpool FC star Philippe Coutinho, are once again linked with a swoop for the out-of-favour FC Barcelona attacker heading into the summer transfer window.
Coutinho’s attempts in seeking a return to English top-flight football in the summer of 2020 had proven futile and with his old side Liverpool FC pulling themselves out of the reckoning, the Blues had emerged as the favourites to sign the Brazillian international.
According to reports from the Sunday World, Chelsea could once again find themselves in the running for Coutinho’s signature as FC Barcelona remain keen on offloading their fringe first-teamer amid the Catalan giants suffering a host of issues on the financial front.
Thomas Tuchel’s intentions of adding to his attacking options are well documented in recent times, with the west Londoners being linked repeatedly with the likes of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland and Haaland’s teammate Jadon Sancho.
But with Coutinho reported to be available for a cut-price deal in the summer, Tuchel might look to intensify interest in the 28-year-old playmaker and amp up his creative options at Stamford Bridge in order to renew their title-winning credentials for the forthcoming campaign.
