Despite Chelsea receiving a £31.5 million bid from Premier League newcomers Burnley, it appears that young left-back Ian Maatsen will be staying at the club this season.
The 21-year-old had a successful loan stint with Burnley in the Championship last season, and Vincent Kompany’s team was eager to secure his permanent transfer this summer.
However, Mauricio Pochettino has been impressed with Maatsen’s performance during Chelsea’s pre-season preparations, and the versatile Dutch player seemed ready to compete for a regular spot in the first team.
As reported by the Metro, Chelsea did accept an offer from Burnley on Friday, which included a loan deal with an obligation to buy for £31.5 million.
Maatsen seems to have doubts about a permanent move to Burnley, as he has reportedly discussed his reluctance with Vincent Kompany.

The 21-year-old has already made appearances as a substitute in two out of Chelsea’s three Premier League matches this season and played the full 90 minutes in their 2-1 EFL Cup victory over AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday.
While Ben Chilwell is currently Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice player in that position, Maatsen is aiming to challenge the English international for the role, despite competition from Marc Cucurella.
Chelsea have been highly active in the transfer market, with numerous arrivals and departures. On Friday, it was revealed that Cole Palmer has successfully undergone the initial part of his medical examination and is set to sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge after a £45 million agreement was reached.
In addition to this, the club has already signed Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, and Nicolas Jackson.
