Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that Chelsea’s youngsters are better than Manchester United’s as they prepare to meet in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Frank Lampard has been reaping the rewards in recent weeks after putting his faith in youngsters after a two transfer window ban. Despite initial struggles early in the season Chelsea’s youngsters have found their feet and are now on a seven-game winning streak.
The likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori who have all graduated from the academy have impressed under Lampard this season.
Manchester United has also similarly placed their faith on young players this season after getting rid of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez but Solskjaer has failed to get the best out of his young squad.
And now Solskjaer has conceded that Chelsea’s youngsters are simply better than his.
‘Chelsea is a very exciting team,’ he said. ‘Frank has got players that have been on loan for one or two seasons in the Championship. The difference between my youngsters is that they are almost stepping right now onto the scene.
‘Axel Tuanzebe has missed the last couple of games, but he has been out on loan (at Aston Villa last season) and you can see the benefit. I think Chelsea’s young players benefit from that now. They are a mature young team.’
Pulisic was the latest Chelsea youngster to impress last week as he hit a hat-trick to inspire Chelsea’s impressive 4-2 win at Burnley.
United are likely to rotate their playing eleven and might give some youngsters a chance to impress.
