Chelsea are said to be keeping close tabs on Atletico Madrid defender Jose Maria Gimenez who is a name on the club’s shopping list for the upcoming January transfer window.
A poor vein of form under Graham Potter in recent weeks has led to speculation that the new Chelsea head coach is likely to dip into the market for reinforcements when the window reopens for business come the New Year.
With his backline suffering injury woes of late, as the likes of Wesley Fofana and Reece James are sidelined until after the World Cup, Potter is looking to bring in a fresh face to add to his options at the back.
According to a report from the Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, it is hinted that Chelsea have zeroed in on the Atletico first-team regular Gimenez as a viable target with the Spanish giants expected to give the nod for his sale.
Atletico failed to make it through to the knockout stages of the Champions League and after their fourth-place finish in the group, Diego Simeone’s men would not be heading to the Europa League as well which could prompt them to part ways with some players.
