Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring the status of Barcelona’s midfielder Gavi, as reported by SPORT.
Barcelona’s coach Xavi Hernandez has a preferred midfield trio consisting of Pedri, Ilkay Gundogan, and Frenkie De Jong, which he regards as his primary selection.
The manager intends to deploy Oriol Romeu as a holding midfielder in specific game situations. Hence, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are exploring the opportunity to sign Gavi, taking advantage of this situation.
In the opening game of the season against Getafe, Gavi was among the substitutes. He made a brief appearance as a substitute, indicating his limited playing time.
This restricted involvement might be due to an injury he sustained during the pre-season preparations. However, it’s worth mentioning that the young midfielder recently signed a new contract until 2026 this summer, potentially complicating any transfer attempts.

Reportedly, the new contract includes a substantial release clause, which could prompt both PSG and Chelsea to reevaluate their positions.
The 19-year-old emerged from Barcelona’s La Masia academy two years ago, showcasing his technical prowess.
Gavi established himself as a regular player in the first team throughout the previous season, amassing an impressive 97 appearances for Barcelona’s senior squad. His contributions include five goals and 13 assists.
Having made his debut for Spain in 2021, the youngster has earned 21 national team caps and scored three goals.
