Chelsea are understood to hold an interest in a swap deal with Juventus for centre-back Matthijs de Ligt with Timo Werner going in the opposite direction to the Serie A heavyweights.
Werner is in line to fall down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the big-money signing of Romleu Lukaku in this summer’s transfer window in order to give some much-needed firepower to Chelsea going forward on the pitch.

The Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, remains keen on adding to his options at the back but was unable to land his long-term target Jules Kounde this summer with Sevilla playing hardball over pricing concerns.
Reports from Italian news outlet Calciomercato have suggested that Chelsea are set to shift their focus to Juventus’ young defender Matthijs de Ligt and will be looking to sign him in a cash-plus-player deal worth £15 million and using Werner as the makeweight.
De Ligt’s career has stalled since joining the Turin-based outfit but the Holland international is still a talent to reckon with and Chelsea hope to use his abilities to bolster their backline next summer.
