Chelsea are said to be keen on a January move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney with Tottenham Hotspur also in the mix despite the player’s lengthy ban.
Toney is not allowed to play until mid-January next year after the England international was hit with a £50,000 fine for breaking the Football Association’s betting rules.
According to a report from The Independent, however, Toney’s ban has not put off the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham with the London-based clubs set to move in for Toney when the transfer window opens for business at the turn of the year.
The Blues, who have spent big this summer under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, are currently operating with their new recruit Nicolas Jackson as the focal point of attack but Pochettino has his sights on bolstering his front line further.
It remains to be seen whether the Chelsea head coach splashes the cash on a fresh pair of legs for the attacking roster before the September 1 transfer deadline with Toney on his transfer radar for the foreseeable future.
