Chelsea hope to land RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol in the January transfer window as the new manager Graham Potter’s first signing at the club.
The Blues were set to table an offer of up to €90 million for bringing in the Croatia international in the final days of the summer window which concluded last week.
Gvardiol, however, signed a one-year extension to stay put with Leipzig who were hopeful of retaining their in-demand centre-back for the season as Chelsea look to reignite their pursuit with a new manager, Graham Potter, at the helm now.
According to a report from ESPN, it is claimed that Chelsea would be keen to reapproach the Bundesliga talent come January and convince him to make the move to Stamford Bridge with a chance to turn for the Premier League bigwigs.
The 38-year-old Thiago Silva’s advancing age has sent Chelsea on a scouting mission to sign another quality centre-back option in the near future despite landing the signatures of Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana in the summer.
