Chelsea’s attempts to sign long-term target Jules Kounde from Sevilla in this summer’s transfer window seem to have stalled for now, according to reports from the English daily Guardian.
Kounde had emerged as one of the top targets on the shopping list for this summer for Chelsea gaffer Thomas Tuchel who was keen on adding to his existing options at the back ahead of the start of the 2021-22 campaign.
There had been the talk of Chelsea making use of Kurt Zouma in their deal for Kounde which could have lured Sevilla into parting ways with their prized young defensive name but Zouma is understood to have made it clear he wants to stay put in London.
With the France international central defender refusing a move abroad and subsequently declining an approach from London-based outfit West Ham United, Chelsea’s hopes of making space in their ranks for a fresh face have been dealt a hammer blow.
The £68 million price-tag for Kounde is highly unlikely to be met by Chelsea this summer which is why Tuchel was hoping to use Zouma as the makeweight in the cash-plus-player deal for the Sevilla man.
