Chelsea have hired Graham Potter as their new head coach following Thomas Tuchel’s sacking earlier in the week on Wednesday, confirmed a statement from the west London outfit.
Potter was the hot favourite to replace Tuchel in the top job at Stamford Bridge with the Brighton manager emerging as the top name on the Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly’s wishlist.
He becomes the 30th manager in Chelsea’s history and pens his contract with the Blues on a five-year deal with Chelsea set to fork out a sum in the region of £16 million to release him from his Brighton contract, according to ESPN.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino and ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane were the other names on Boehly’s shortlist with Potter pipping both to the job following his impressive run of results while in charge of Brighton.
Potter guided Brighton to a commendable ninth-place finish in the Premier League last term and has also coached Swedish outfit Ostersund and Championship side Swansea City in the past.
