Jesse Marsch, manager of the Austrian side RB Salzburg, believes that Chelsea FC’s summer signing Timo Werner will form a threatening attacking partnership with Christian Pulisic for the west London club next season.
The 24-year old Werner joined the Blues from RB Salzburg’s sister outfit RB Leipzig in a deal worth £47.5m last month. The German international was in high-flying form last season and was the second-highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga, surpassed only by Robert Lewandowski.
Marsch, who was the assistant coach of RB Leipzig for a span of one year and has worked with Werner in the past, showered praise on the forward’s ability. The American coach believes Frank Lampard’s side have found a world-class talent in the German for a bargain price.
“Timo is an incredible talent and an aggressive attacker and a great scorer and an intelligent footballer.”
“Chelsea, for a relatively cheap price, have picked up a world-class player.”
According to Marsch, Werner will link up with Christian Pulisic in a fantastic manner considering the latter’s talent on the pitch. The ex-Borussia Dortmund attacker was Chelsea FC’s standout performer in the latter half of last season’s Premier League despite struggling to adapt to the style of play in England following his move to Stamford Bridge last summer.
“He is a cut-throat attacker and the potential for him and Christian to be a good pair is really, really high.”
