Chelsea have allowed Manchester City to speak to their midfielder Mateo Kovacic who has been earmarked as a top target for the Premier League champions ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
According to a report from The Athletic, it is claimed that City, who clinched the top flight crown for three seasons in a row this term, have been granted permission by the Chelsea camp to speak to Kovacic.
City are likely to lose long-serving maestro Ilkay Gundogan who is out of contract at the Etihad this summer and Pep Guardiola wants to dip into the market come the summer for a fresh pair of legs.
The 29-year-old Croatian international will enter the final year of his current terms with the Blues over the summer and Chelsea will be keen to cash in on him rather than part ways on a free transfer next year.
The former Real Madrid midfielder has attracted interest from other clubs across Europe including Bayern Munich where the ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is looking to overhaul his squad before the next season gets underway.
