Chelsea have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin for the next summer’s transfer window.
The French winger had emerged as a likely target for Thomas Tuchel’s camp at the Bridge with the Blues boss understood to be looking for reinforcements for his attacking roster despite bringing in Romelu Lukaku this summer.
Reports from The Daily Express, however, have now suggested that Chelsea’s plans of making a swoop for Saint-Maximin’s services could take a backseat following Newcastle United’s recent takeover by a Saudi Arabia-based group.
The new owners are certain to retain Saint-Maximin at the St. James’ Park, according to the rumour mill, besides making major moves in the forthcoming transfer windows to bolster the Magpies roster.
Tuchel will be forced to look at alternative names in the transfer market ahead of the upcoming January window with rumours doing the rounds that the German wants the Chelsea board to recruit a new striker following injuries to Lukaku and Timo Werner.
