Chelsea have reportedly gained major ground in their longstanding efforts to land the signature of Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.
The Holland international defender has emerged on the transfer radar at Stamford Bridge with the Blues manager Thomas Tuchel on the search for reinforcements at the back ahead of the next summer.
Contract extension deadlocks with both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen threaten to play spoilsport to Tuchel’s defensive roster at the Bridge and has convinced the German to scout the market for a new signing.
De Ligt is rumoured to be unsettled with the Serie A giants Juventus and his agent Mino Raiola is demanding a move elsewhere for his star client with Chelsea backed to be leading the race to sign the former Ajax man, claim reports from The Daily Express.
It is believed that Juventus have set their sights on AC Milan first-teamer Alessio Romagnoli and this turn of events would aid Chelsea’s attempts to bring in De Ligt from the Italians in the forthcoming transfer windows.
