Chelsea are said to be fretting over the delay in playmaker Mason Mount’s contract renewal talks which have dragged on since the summer.
Mount has a full season left on his existing terms but is yet to give his nod to penning a new long-term deal to commit to his future at Stamford Bridge and rebuff interest in his services from elsewhere.
According to a report from The Telegraph, it is claimed with Mount heading into the final 20 months of his contract, the Chelsea camp have identified Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini and Villarreal’s Yéremy Pino as viable replacements for the Englishman.
While the 26-year-old Pellegrini captains the Roma side and has been an influential performer in the Serie A, the 19-year-old Pino is one name believed to be on the radar of a host of Premier League bigwigs following his impressive breakthrough at Villarreal.
Neither player, however, would prove to be a cheap signing for Chelsea with Pellegrini contracted to Roma on a long-term basis and Pino’s terms with Villarreal not due to expire until the summer of 2027.
