Chelsea FC set to compete with Liverpool for Dennis Zakaria’s singature

The Blues have reportedly joined the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria ahead of next season. The Swiss midfielder has also courted interest from the Premier League champions, Liverpool, in the past month. Zakaria has been a solid performer for Monchengladbach since signing for the Bundesliga outfit in 2017.

Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard is believed to wanting to sign the 23-year old to freshen things up at the centre of the park for his side. The absence of N’Golo Kante this season due to a lengthy spell on the sidelines owing to injuries has meant a depleted midfield roster at Lampard’s disposal. As a result, the Blues manager is keen to add another midfielder to his squad this summer.

Zakaria’s signing could prove to be a great tactical decision on Lampard’s part for his side. The midfielder is relatively young when compared to some of the other Chelsea FC midfield options. Moreover, the Blues supporters would relish the possibility of Zakaria and Mason Mount operating as the club’s primary midfielder’s in the years to come.

The Swiss international’s existing contract with Borussia Monchengladbach is valid for another two years. The German side, however, are willing to let Zakaria leave this summer for a reported fee of €23.5 million. Such an amount being paid for a young talent like Zakaria could definitely be a steal for Lampard’s side.

Targeting a move for the 23-year old will be a potential third signing being eyed by the Chelsea FC boss from the Bundesliga. German striker Timo Werner’s capture from RB Leipzig was announced last month. Moreover, Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz is rumoured to be closing on a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, the Blues are not the only side to have expressed interest in signing the Swiss international. Liverpool and Inter Milan also have registered their interest in securing Zakaria’s services this summer. The former have reportedly opened talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over the 23-year old’s availability in the current transfer window.
